After CCW and Xperience 2026: what agentic voice actually changed

June and September conference season moved Voice AI from demo reels to production checklists: interruption, versioning, and a human takeover that keeps context.

Two events set the tone for late 2026. Five9 used Customer Contact Week in Las Vegas on 23 June to launch a new Voice AI Agent architecture and an AI Agent Studio for test, version, promote, and roll back. Genesys used Xperience on 2 September to push Agentic Virtual Agent, Contextual Intelligence, and an AI Control Plane that watches those agents while they work.

The market stopped arguing about the bot

Buyers are no longer asking whether a voice agent can greet a caller. They are asking whether it can be interrupted, finish a task in a system of record, and hand a live person the full story. That is the same bar Microsoft set in April when real-time voice agents went generally available in Dynamics 365 Contact Center for North America: low-latency speech-to-speech, barge-in, and context that survives the transfer.

  • Interruption handling is now a feature, not a nice-to-have.
  • Studios for test and rollback matter as much as the model.
  • Handoff without the transcript is a failed automation.

What this means on an Avaga floor

Enterprise CCaaS platforms are building control planes for thousands of agents. Most growing teams need the same discipline in a smaller room: an AI employee on the line, a human who can take over, and one workspace that already holds the recording, the CRM note, and the next SMS. Avaga Workspace is built for that shape, not for a six-month orchestration program.

If a vendor cannot show you a barge-in, a versioned prompt, and a warm handoff in the same demo, you are still looking at an IVR with a nicer voice.

Use this season as a buying filter. Ask for a live interruption. Ask what happens when the caller says a card number. Ask who owns the transcript after the AI employee steps back. Those three answers separate a 2026 agent from a 2023 bot.
